During July, August & September, the online and field survey carried out on the five pilot islands, in collaboration with the HORECA tourism sector, was successfully completed. The aim was to assess current levels of SUP usage, the main challenges and barriers, as well as the sector’s readiness for the transition. A total of 289 businesses in the HORECA sector took part in the survey; specifically, 76 from Formentera, 46 from Gozo, 15 from Salina, 98 from Skiathos and 54 from Vis.
Drawing on the survey findings, REZERO (the lead partner of the activity) formulated and provided tailor-made feedback for each island/pilot site in relation to the quantification of SUP in HORECA sector, issues and concerns regarding waste management, the implementation of preventive measures, perceived barriers and the involvement of the HORECA sector, with the ultimate aim of developing tailored alternatives to single-use plastics.
